This moment is calling us to grow up and show up. But sometimes growing means outgrowing. Outgrowing old systems that were never designed for most of us. Outgrowing old patterns of separation and supremacy that have kept us small and striving for false security. Outgrowing old ways of relating and othering and competing for resources/attention.
While this work calls for deep inquiry and unflinching accountability, it should also be met with collective tenderness and care. Vanessa Machado de Oliveira, author of my favorite book Hospicing Modernity and now Outgrowing Modernity says "the joy in this work comes from composting ourselves - with compassion, accountability and the understanding that we're all entangled in modernity's mess".
As the systems and structures around us collapse, it is not simply the end of things, but the beginning of a new way of being. All of us play a unique role in hospicing old stories and patterns into transition and midwifing new worlds into creation. Getting ready and resourced will determine how we show up and what is possible...for all of us.
I'm hosting a special and intimate coaching cohort for white bodied folks this fall called GROW to support our practice of outgrowing old systems of separation and supremacy and growing in solidarity and action.
