Hi John, I wanted to take a moment to wish you a happy Labor Day and tell you more about what the day is all about.

Today, we honor the workers who make this country run and rededicate ourselves to standing strong for the union way of life.

Western Pennsylvania is hallowed ground for the labor movement. We’re the people who made the steel that built America. Who built our roads and highways, who fought our country’s wars, who powered our railways, and so much more.

Workers here have forged our region’s identity through blood, sweat, and tears. We’ve fought hard for our unions and have stood strong for labor rights. Remember, “without our brain and muscle, not a single wheel can turn.”

But today, corporate power runs rampant, and it’s hurt our workers and hollowed out our towns. Our fight to protect unions and workers’ rights has never been more important than it is right now.

I’m proud to have stood alongside the Steelworkers in the fight to form a union at the University of Pittsburgh. And I’m proud to be continuing the fight to defend workers, protect unions, and stand up to corporate power in Congress.

Today, and every day, I’m dedicated to standing with the labor movement and I’m ready to keep showing up for workers and for the union way of life in Western PA.
