The primary of the Republican BET candidates for the town of Greenwich begins on Tuesday, September 2 and goes through September 7 with the main day of voting on September 9.
We have been watching the letters to the editors, the Op-Ed’s and the various smear campaigns by Democrats regarding the BET and its decisions to “cut the budget on education”.

Here are the facts - enrollment is down so Why should the budget increase?
“In total, 8,392 students were enrolled in the district for the 2025-26 school year as of Friday, Superintendent Toni Jones said. Last year, GPS had 8,513 enrolled students. This has been so mis-characterized as a fear tactic to say that the Republicans of the town of Greenwich are cutting Key education resources from the school children.
What happened with the BET and the BOE was a reduction of the increase in budget not a cut to the existing budget.
Just because there’s inflation, does not mean the Budget should automatically increase when enrollment is down.
As a fiscally responsible town, one should first look at where waste can be eliminated. There was also a surplus that effectively offset some of that proposed budget increase. This has to do with Connecticut statute and concerns of if you do not use the spending with a surplus, you lose it.
What you have here are conservatives running for local Office on the BET.

The candidates with asterix are endorsed by the Greenwich RTC.
The bios as reported to the LWV is here. [ [link removed] ] Read them and become informed voters.
While there are two “slates” running, some of each slate includes those endorsed by the Greenwich RTC.
What is impressive is how many Republican voters these petition candidates engaged to achieve over 1500 signatures (in such a short time) and many of those petitions included grassroots campaigning like the town dump campaigning that we like so much.
The willingness to sign a petition demonstrates that there are Greenwich Voters that want to get active in the future of the town. While only Republicans could sign the petitions for these candidates, many unaffiliated, independent and democrats were questioned. The biggest challenge is informing the voter and these petitions may encourage those who cannot participate (due to party affiliation) to show up in November.
The hope is that whatever happens at the primary when it concludes on Tuesday, September 9th, the Republicans can see how they are able to mobilize, even against each other in a primary and how they will all be needed to work hard for municipal elections in November.
A Cautionary Tale
Those that win on the 9th should help bring a united front on the 10th as keeping Greenwich fiscally responsible and instilling parent choice and say back into their children’s education. Fighting against woke progressive changes and focusing on and education program designed to make Greenwich the best school district in Connecticut is necessary to combat Toni Jones and her cohort.
So make your voices heard at the polls. Your vote counts, now and in November.
