Dear Friend,

How long should a good man be forced to wait for justice?

Officer Salvatore Oldrati acted to save lives. He followed his training. He
made a split-second decision when his life was in danger, and for thathe’s
facing prison time.

And now, with Salvatore’s trial postponed until next year, he and his family
are left waiting, living in fear and uncertainty. All because politicians
decided to indict him nearly two years after he was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Here’s the truth.

On September 14, 2021, Mantua Township police responded to a 911 call about a
burglary in progress. Dispatch warned that one of the suspects was armed.

Corporal Robert Layton arrived first. He was immediately confronted by an
armed man who pointed a gun at him and refused repeated commands to drop it.
Seconds later, Officer Oldrati faced that same man pointing the gun at him.

He had no choice but to act.

A .45 caliber handgun was recovered right beside the suspect. And what did
Salvatore do next? He began life-saving measures on the man he had just been
forced to stop.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and the State Police Shooting
Response Team investigated thoroughly. In October 2021, Oldrati was cleared,
reinstated, and found to have acted lawfully and justifiably.

He went back to work. He was promoted. He was named Officer of the Year for
the second time.

Then, out of nowhere, nearly two years later, the Attorney General’s office
indicted him for “reckless manslaughter.” Exculpatory evidence was withheld
from the grand jury. The process was manipulated to force an indictment against
a good cop.

Now, instead of serving his community, Captain Oldrati is stuck waiting—his
career on hold, his family in turmoil, his freedom hanging in the balance until
next year.

Officer Oldrati is a third-generation law enforcement officer. He grew up
wanting to wear the badge. He has saved lives, earned Meritorious Service and
Life Saving Awards, and been honored as Officer of the Year. He is also a
husband and a father, with loved ones who stand by him in this nightmare.

But they cannot fight this battle alone.

Your support for the National Center for Police Defense will help cover
Salvatore’s legal costs and help his family hold on through this long and
grueling wait for justice.

Please, stand with him today.
