Hi there,
Since 2017, the Vote Forward community has written over 40 million letters to voters. That’s a staggering number! Together, we’ve proven through dozens of randomized control trials—the gold standard in scientific research—that this simple, human act can help increase voter participation.
But our research also shows that we need to innovate on new tactics—in and beyond letter-writing—in order to drive the biggest voter turnout. In other words, we must continue our rigorous, evidence-based research to understand how to win elections.
That’s why, in partnership with our nationwide network of volunteers, Vote Forward will run further strategic, evidence-driven experiments to discover, test, and refine the next generation of tactics that can strengthen voter participation at scale.
Together, we’re building the future of voter engagement. But the innovative, rigorous work we’re doing requires resources—and every experiment, every campaign, and every letter is only possible thanks to generous contributions from supporters like you.

Starting with this year’s Pennsylvania Supreme Court campaign (which you can sign up to take part in now!)* and continuing into 2026, 2028, and beyond, our tactical approach will be guided by these priorities:
- Building deeper relationships between volunteers and voters: Evolving from one-time, shallow outreach to programs that foster sustained, repeated engagement should be more effective and rewarding for everyone involved, including volunteers. We believe these deeper relationships will have a positive impact on voter registration and turnout.
- Broadening voter engagement outcomes: We’re exploring how to engage voters across their entire lifecycle—from registration to persuasion to other forms of civic engagement, like helping voters understand what’s on their ballots. Voters make many decisions beyond just whether or not to vote—and we believe we’ll be more successful in boosting turnout if we take a more holistic approach to how we engage them.
- Taking a longer-term approach: Traditionally, our letter-writing campaigns have been a "last-mile" tactic—something we deploy in the final months before an election when people are making their voting decisions. But we think it's time to start much earlier. That means thinking now, in 2025, about the voters we want to turn out in 2026 and even 2028. If we wait until the month before an election to reach them, we’re missing valuable opportunities to build a relationship and influence their engagement.
With so much at stake for the future of our democracy, it’s critical that we continue to innovate and find the tactics that are most effective in boosting voter turnout. But none of it is possible without your support.
