I want to make you aware of a critical issue the voters of Colorado can address leading up to the November 2026 election.

Perhaps the most critical issue facing Colorado voters in the next general election (besides electing more Republicans) will be the consideration of ballot initiatives concerning the protection of children. Over the past several years, Democrats at the state legislature have passed laws that many believe place the state government and its agencies between parents and their children, the social building blocks of our culture.

The following laws are at the center of this concern and have prompted ongoing debate:
1. State-mandated approval of gender transitioning for children by counselors, teachers, foster/adoptive families, and others:
HB19-1129, HB24-1039, HB24-1017, and HB25-1312
2. Teaching of gender ideology in schools starting in 1st grade:
HB19-1032 and HB19-1192
3. Removal or restriction of parental rights through policies and procedures affecting schools, doctors, therapists, CPS, and family courts:
HB19-1120, HB23-1003, and HB25-1312

Addressing these issues is vital for several reasons:

First, we are the party that protects children and strengthens families. We are the party of common sense. If we can’t support protecting the most valuable people in our lives—our children—what are we really about?

Secondly, based on focus groups and statewide polling, the language of these petitions has been carefully crafted to engage unaffiliated voters and a wide swath of Coloradans. It’s an issue that resonates beyond party lines.

Lastly, I personally assisted in gathering signatures last summer in my local community. Powers in Denver, including NGOs like One Colorado, delayed our efforts during a key window—cutting in half the time available to collect the 125,000 required signatures. Ultimately, the Colorado Supreme Court affirmed the Title Board’s approval of our initiatives. The all-volunteer group behind this effort, Protect Kids Colorado, gathered more signatures in a shorter amount of time (less than 90 days) than any other ballot initiative in state history.

What can we as Republicans do?
* Volunteer in our counties to help collect signatures this year to ensure these initiatives appear on the ballot so voters can make their voices heard;
* Identify and support candidates who include these priorities in their platforms;
* Recognize that these core values are winning issues that can help shift Colorado’s direction—we have the data.

Colorado Republicans will earn the right to lead by showing up to protect our children and their future.
