Email from Rep. Hinson Friend, Earlier this week, I saw the news that gas prices this Labor Day will be the cheapest they’ve been in years. Turns out, when you unleash American energy instead of stifling it, prices go down for consumers. Iowans shouldn’t have to choose between filling up their gas tank and putting food on the table. That’s why you saw over 77 million Americans give President Trump and Congress a mandate to end Biden’s war on American energy. The president took bold action on his first day back in office to reverse Biden-era policies, and the One Big Beautiful Bill delivers on the president’s promise to restore American energy dominance and drive down Americans’ cost of living. Energy policy matters for every Iowan—from the farmer fueling equipment to the truck driver delivering goods. That’s why I remain committed to an all-of-the-above-and-below strategy that prioritizes liquid transportation fuels, natural gas, and other domestic sources—without forcing Washington’s one-size-fits-all mandates on rural America. We are embracing an America First energy policy, which will correct the misguided incentives of the Green New Deal, instead of handing over control to radical climate activists and liberal special interests. Through this transformational legislation, we are reinstating quarterly oil and natural gas sales. And we are extending tax credits to support Iowa biofuels while ensuring benefits can be passed on to Iowa farmers. After Biden depleted our emergency supply, the One Big Beautiful Bill refills the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and strengthens America’s energy security. As I’ve said many times, energy security is national security. The One Big Beautiful Bill will help usher in a new Golden Era of energy dominance by unlocking opportunities for investment, restoring American jobs that Biden eliminated, and ensuring consumer choice is restored so families can choose the car that fits their needs. Sincerely, Answering Your Questions: Town Halls in Howard and Worth Counties I held two in-person town halls this week in Worth and Howard Counties – my 46th and 47th town halls since taking office. I enjoyed sharing more about my work with President Trump to secure the border and lower taxes for Iowa's working families and answering questions. Thanks to everyone who came out—I'll continue to be accessible and transparent to you every step of the way. Traveling to Every Corner of Iowa's Second Congressional District Earlier in the week, I had a great US Chamber roundtable with local stakeholders and business owners in Mason City. They are essential to the strength of Iowa’s rural economy, and I’m grateful for our partnership. We agreed: hardworking Iowans and small businesses deserve a tax code that rewards—not punishes—them. That’s exactly what we delivered with the working families tax cuts in the One Big Beautiful Bill. Absolutely loved my visit to Roots Nutrition Counseling—a great example of a local business making a positive impact in its community! Iowa business owner Jenn Arndt started Roots Nutrition Counseling after she witnessed many hospital patients struggle to take the skills they learned in outpatient care and apply them to real life. The very skills most of us take for granted—cooking, prepping, and meal planning—were often the missing pieces in their daily lives. Thanks to Jenn and her team, they are changing people’s lives right here in Mason City, and I’m grateful for the important work they do! I also had a wonderful visit to YSS of North Iowa, a nonprofit dedicated to lifting up youth and families in Northern Iowa. Touring their campus gave me a firsthand look at the incredible range of services they provide—helping young people and families overcome challenges and build lasting stability. I’m grateful for the work YSS is doing and will continue to advocate for a brighter future for Iowa’s youth and America’s next generation. I really enjoyed spending some time in downtown Clear Lake to hear from local businesses this week. The tax relief in President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill was front and center because the provisions in this package truly benefit Clear Lake families and businesses. And Iowans in Cerro Gordo County will save an average of $3,069. This is a huge deal! I am so proud to help deliver more certainty and more opportunities for working Americans and Iowa’s Main Street businesses. Thanks for having us! In Case You Missed It: Quick Hits I recapped recent stops on my 22 County Tour while visiting businesses in Mason City, Iowa! I praised President Trump for reversing Biden's war on American energy and delivering the cheapest Labor Day gas prices in years. I prayed for the victims, first responders, and people of Minneapolis in the wake of the horrific tragedy at Annunciation Catholic School. I highlighted the Trump Administration's efforts to ramp up ICE operations in soft-on-crime cities so we can make America safe again. The House Appropriations Committee thanked me for my work for IA-02.
