UNICEF is delivering critical aid to Gaza. But far more access is needed.

In the Gaza Strip, every child under five is at risk of acute malnutrition and famine has been confirmed. With a partial reopening of crossings, UNICEF and partners have had recent success in getting aid into Gaza, delivering 33 trucks-worth of infant formula, high-energy biscuits and hygiene kits at the end of July. But it’s nowhere near enough — and UNICEF calls for the immediate opening of humanitarian crossings and a sustained ceasefire, now.

Catch-up classes serve as a safe space for teens in Ukraine

Three years of war has robbed Ukraine’s teens of so many of the things we associate with a normal adolescence. After over three years of war, more than 1,600 schools have been damaged or destroyed, and assessments record an average learning loss of two years in some subjects. Now, with the help of in-person catch-up classes made possible by the European Union, UNICEF and the savED Foundation, teens can resume their education in a safe, supportive environment and make new friends, too.

The conflict in Sudan puts many children at extreme risk of famine

Across Sudan, children are dying of hunger, disease and violence. In Jebel Aulia, one of two localities in Khartoum State that have been identified as being at extreme risk of famine, UNICEF Sudan Representative Sheldon Yett lamented that “many of the children are reduced to just skin and bones.” UNICEF and partners are providing health and nutrition services and access to safe water and sanitation, but far more access is needed.

Uplifting children with disabilities starts with inclusive learning

UNICEF works with partners to ensure children with disabilities receive the support they need to thrive in the classroom. Since 2022, UNICEF and the LEGO Foundation have been collaborating to introduce Lego braille bricks in schools across Madagascar, Uganda and Burundi. Of the 30 students in teacher Felix Andrianariso’s fifth-grade class, six are visually impaired or blind. "Using LEGO Braille Bricks is an advantage for us, because all our students can use them together," says Andrianariso. "It really helps blind children learn how to write."
