Donald Trump and extremist Republicans in Washington are pushing a dangerous agenda that’s hurting working families. They passed massive tax giveaways to billionaires ripping away health care for over 17 million Americans, threatening food nutrition programs, and putting rural communities at risk. They’re trying to gut Social Security, push strict bans on abortion without exceptions across this country, and they’ve even cut funding for public broadcasting.

Because they know their agenda is wildly unpopular, they’re attacking our right to vote and free and fair elections by undermining mail-in voting and redrawing voting maps to cling to power.

Here is the truth: All of our progress is at stake, and we have to step up to defend it in this critical moment.

That’s why Democratic governors like myself are jumping into action to fight back against the Trump administration’s extremism. But we can’t do it alone.

The governors’ races in Virginia and New Jersey this November are our first opportunities at the ballot box to show we reject their extremist agenda and will defend our fundamental rights. In 2026, there are 36 more governors’ races – and Donald Trump and extremist Republicans are already doing everything they can to destroy our blue firewall.
