Can I tell you a story?

When I launched my campaign for State House in 2022, no one thought I'd be able to win in a district Trump won handily twice.

However, friend, as a Paralympian and former pro athlete, I know if there's a will, there's a way. So, I hit the streets of Council Bluffs and Carter Lake to make my case to voters.

The funny thing about my district is, unlike most of Iowa, this neck of the woods is very hilly. Most houses have 10 or 20 stairs leading up to the front porch.

Still, I spent four months knocking on damn near every door in town. Every time someone answered, they'd ask the same question: “How in the world did you get up here to my door?”.

I told them the truth: I crawled up here, one step at a time. That's how important this conversation is to me.

Friend, all that sweat and determination paid off on Election Day, when I won by six votes.

Then, in 2024, I turned my six-vote victory into a six-point victory.

That grit and grind is how we're going to beat Joni Ernst in 2026. It won't be easy — Iowa is one of the most competitive Senate seats in the country, according to experts — but we're going to win this one step at a time.
