Dear John,

Sixty-two years ago today, 250,000 people marched on Washington to demand civil rights and to move our nation closer to fulfilling its promise of equal rights for all.

Today, the work continues to protect democracy and advance voting rights.

More states than ever before have strict voter ID laws, causing enormous confusion and forcing many eligible voters to spend time and money getting an ID in order to exercise their freedom to vote.

We also face a growing threat from documentary proof of citizenship laws, which require documents like a passport or birth certificate in order to register and vote. Our research shows that millions of eligible voters do not have easy access to these kinds of documents and would be disenfranchised as a result.

On this auspicious anniversary, here are three things you can do to carry forward the spirit of the March on Washington:
1. Stop the SAVE Act. [[link removed]] The so-called SAVE Act is being considered by the Senate and would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in all federal elections. You can send an email to your Senators right now and tell them to vote NO on the SAVE Act. [[link removed]]
2. Volunteer to help voters. [[link removed]] VoteRiders holds 2-4 volunteer events every month in order to get information and help to the voters who need it most. Sign up to volunteers with VoteRiders. [[link removed]]
3. Donate. [[link removed]] Right now, a donor is matching all gifts up to $25,000 in order to fight a dangerous ballot initiative in California that would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote and photo ID to vote. This would devastate California's democracy, disenfranchising millions of eligible voters. Donate now and your gift will be doubled. [[link removed]]

Thank you for doing what you can to protect democracy and voting rights!

In solidarity,
