John,
The crisis in Gaza has only gotten worse this past week.
First, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed his plans for a ground invasion of Gaza City.
The Israeli military plans to fully occupy the city by October but the first stage has already begun, with tanks rolling in and bombs dropping in the al-Zaytoun neighborhood. Families are once again being forced to evacuate their homes with nowhere safe to go, while Israeli forces expel all medical workers and destroy the city’s remaining health care infrastructure.
Then, a United Nations panel confirmed what we long knew was coming: famine is underway in Gaza.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), UNICEF, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), and the World Health Organization (WHO) are all calling for a ceasefire and a full-scale, unimpeded humanitarian response to allow food to flow freely into Gaza before half a million people starve to death. More Palestinians die of starvation as the IDF kills desperate aid-seekers with each day’s passing.
And on Monday, Israeli forces conducted a double-tap drone strike on Nasser Hospital, killing at least 20 people, including five more journalists.
Disturbing video shows rescue workers and reporters being struck by a missile with zero warning while assessing the damage and trying to save lives just minutes after the first strike. It was one of the deadliest attacks on Palestinian journalists since Israel began this genocide almost two years ago.
There is no justification for ANY of this. And yet, the majority of Congress continues to sit on its hands and refuse to hold Israel accountable by withholding new weapons transfers or military aid.
Justice Democrats are among the few American leaders in power speaking out and taking action to end this genocide and ethnic cleansing.
As long as the Netanyahu administration continues its efforts to occupy and wipe out all of Gaza, we must keep pressuring U.S. leaders to act.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
