It’s back-to-school season—a time that should be filled with excitement about new teachers, new friends, and new opportunities to learn. For some kids, there are nerves too—nerves about fitting in, about tougher classes, or maybe even about starting at a new school.

But here in America, there’s another, much darker anxiety weighing on families: the threat of gun violence in schools.

Instead of working to protect our kids from that very real danger, Republicans have decided that the true menace in our classrooms is… books.

That’s right—while kids practice active shooter drills, Republicans are spending their energy making sure students never get their hands on books about friendship, identity, or even fantasy adventures.

It’s absurd, and it’s dangerous. Our kids don’t need politicians telling them what stories they’re allowed to read. They need leaders who are serious about keeping them safe from gun violence.
