Reps. Foushee, Ross Slam Closure of EPA Office of Research and Development, Urge Administrator Zeldin to Reverse Course
Hi, it’s Deborah.
Congresswoman Valerie Foushee and I are working together to protect the work of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Americans across the country want to ensure our lands, air, and water are protected — something the current Republican administration doesn’t seem to care about.
When Trump’s hand-picked EPA Administrator, Lee Zeldin, announced he’d shut down the Office of Research and Development (ORD), Valerie and I couldn’t stay silent.
The ORD is the research arm of the EPA — a critical component of credible decision-making to protect our health and our ecosystems for the past 50 years.
Some of the work conducted by the ORD includes:
- Studying the health impacts of wildfire smoke inhalation,
- Researching PFAS toxicity and detection methods,
- Improving water treatment technologies,
and so much more.
By shutting down the ORD, we’re putting the lives of North Carolinians and people across the country at risk.
Not only is this decision from Administrator Lee Zeldin unwanted and unwarranted — it will have dire consequences for all of us as we come up against the biggest challenges known to humankind.
I’m working diligently with Rep. Foushee to demand the immediate reversal of this decision. But unless we flip the House blue, Republicans will continue to hack away at the guardrails to enable corporate polluters and let them walk free.
Will you please split $10 between me and Rep. Foushee to make sure we flip the House blue so Democratic leaders can put an end to Republicans’ unchecked destruction of our lands, air, and water?
