Friends,
People sometimes ask why I chose to run for and serve in public office.
From Fall 2003, when I started my first campaign for Knox County School Board, to today as Knoxville's Mayor, what motivates me is the same: To make life better for the people of our community. Making life better means looking to the future, and that means investing in children.
Recently the L&N STEM Academy, located in World’s Fair Park, was ranked the No. 6 high school ([link removed]) in all of Tennessee, and top 2 percent in the nation. This amazing school is the result of a creative partnership between the City of Knoxville and Knox County Schools starting in 2010 when I was Chair of the Knox County Board of Education.
I am so grateful for all the people who took that leap of faith to create that brand new school and make it a success.
Last week, City Council approved an agreement that will allow Muse Knoxville ([link removed]) to expand into the Jacob Building, giving them five times more space than they currently have. The expanded Muse will be a year-round interactive science museum for all ages, and a true inspiration for our future STEM professionals. Many thanks to Muse Knoxville for dreaming big and partnering with the City on this important community resource.
Kids are our future. The more we support and inspire our children, the brighter Knoxville’s future.
Very truly yours,
Indya
