Hi friend - It’s Shawn, Eric’s partner.

I want to thank you for the power you have brought to Eric to the campaign. Your energy is what gives us the courage and the strength to keep going, even in the most challenging times.

And right now, the Supreme Court has ensured it’s a challenging moment for anyone who simply wants the freedom to love who they do.

Eric has previously said that SCOTUS was “legislating from the bench.” With cases like the challenge to Obergefell being accepted, he’s not exactly wrong.

Emboldened by their supermajority, and driven by the whims of the White House, the right-wing of the court is creating a new landscape of laws, rather than interpreting existing ones as the Constitution requires – and so many of these cases seem to involve rolling back hard-fought rights to simply be treated as any other human.

Love shouldn’t ever be political. But it’s a fact that for many powerful people, targeting vulnerable communities is how they can display false strength while allowing the well-being of those they’re supposed to serve to rot.

But that’s not who we are, or what our household is about. Even in this moment, now is the time to lead with the acceptance, tolerance, and love that everyone deserves.

I know Eric’s love for our place in the world and his decades of putting our neighbors well-being first. And he’s so grateful to be an example of hope and progress for thousands of IL-17 residents, and millions of others nationwide.

It’s another reminder that we don’t fight hate with more hate. We fight it with visibility.

I'm reminded why we need representatives in Congress who can lead with purpose, a moral vision, and empathy -- especially when it comes to protecting those under attack, who feel scared and alone right now.

A blue Congress next cycle with more LGBTQ allies would go a long way toward checking the Supreme Court’s power. And the first step toward flipping the House blue is defending key swing districts like IL-17, and important voices like Eric. Please contribute to his campaign today.
