John,
10 million Texans.
That’s how many people will be redistricted under Greg Abbott’s racist and illegal new maps.
And two-thirds of them? People of color — mostly Black and Latino voters.
Let that sink in.
The majority of the people whose voices will be silenced by this scheme are the very voters Abbott and Trump are most afraid of. Voters who will decide the outcome of the next election. Voters who should be protected under the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
This isn’t normal redistricting.
They’re moving 10 million people to new districts in the middle of the decade. And in the process, they’re making sure there’s no Latino opportunity districts in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, or the Austin areas — in a state where the largest racial group is Latino.
If it wasn’t clear before, it is now: These maps are racially gerrymandered — plain and simple. And it’s one of the most dangerous attacks on democracy we’ve ever seen in Texas.
They’re not just redrawing lines. They’re trying to erase our communities. To silence our voices. And to hand Texas over to Donald Trump.
But we’re not backing down. And I’m fighting back.
I’m organizing. I’m traveling across the state. I’m meeting voters where they are. And I’m fighting like hell to stop these maps from ever going into effect.
But this fight takes real resources. And since I don’t take a dime of corporate PAC money, I’m relying on grassroots supporters like you to power this movement.
This fight is about more than 5 seats in Congress. It’s about who gets to have a voice in our democracy and who doesn’t. We can’t let 10 million Texans lose theirs.
In solidarity,
Greg Casar
