If I told you about a city with a homicide rate of 27.3 per 100,000 residents, vehicle theft 3 TIMES the U.S. national average, and a place where youth criminals ride four-wheelers around busy streets, you’d probably think I was referring to somewhere in Venezuela, Mexico, or Pakistan. Try Washington, D.C., our nation's CAPITAL! I applaud President Trump's efforts to clean up Washington. This city needs to be a beacon of freedom for all who visit. What it DOES not need to be is an open-air drug market and crime-ridden haven for bad actors. Law and order is something President Trump ran on. Yet another promise is being kept.
President Trump recently signed a proclamation marking the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act. This ceremony further underscores his commitment and campaign promises to strengthen and protect Social Security for generations to come. So far, this administration and the Senate GOP have passed and signed into law significant tax relief for America’s seniors, stopped 275,000 illegal aliens from cheating the system, and removed over 12.4 million names over 120 years from the database.
The president said it best, "On this momentous milestone, we recommit to strengthening our retirement system, protecting programs like Social Security and Medicare against fraud and abuse, and ensuring that every future generation of American citizens has the income security they need and earned."
This week, I led a bipartisan delegation, joined by U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) and U.S. Representatives Jason Smith (R-MO) and Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), to the Middle East to be the first congressional delegation to meet with Syria's new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, in Damascus, Syria. While we have had differences in the past, one thing we were all able to agree on now was the importance of a stable Syrian government.
Additionally, we met with my friend, the King of Jordan, Abdullah II, and the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, to discuss peace in the region. I want to thank them and their staff for productive meetings, and we look forward to continuing the conversations.
