As students return to campus and K-12 schools, ADL continues to be hard at work supporting them and making sure that whatever they face on the quad or in the classroom, we will be there to help.

This Campus Briefing newsletter has returned to keep you informed about the latest news affecting students, faculty, staff and families. This first edition of the Fall semester brings together ADL ‘back to school’ resources that will help ensure that every member of the school community feels safe and welcome. Starting next Tuesday, you will get twice-weekly Campus Briefings with the news updates you need to be an effective advocate.

ADL, in partnership with Hillel International, the Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, has just released a clear set of recommendations to help universities create more inclusive campuses for all. 

Why This Matters Now 
Since 10/7, we’ve witnessed heightened hostility on campuses, with hateful incidents ranging from classroom disruptions to the assault and harassment of Jewish campus community members. While some universities have taken strong actions to protect all students, staff and faculty, others have failed to adequately address antisemitism. 

What Universities Should Do to Prepare for the Academic Year
We’re urging universities to commit to these essential steps:

• Promote campus safety by communicating and enforcing rules governing protests and demonstrations and policies prohibiting discrimination
• Establish dedicated offices or coordinators for Title VI compliance whose primary role is preventing discrimination and addressing violations
• Actively support Jewish students, staff and faculty
• Develop and administer a process to assess the campus climate with respect to antisemitism
• Hold faculty accountable to uphold professional and academic standards

• ADL's Center to Combat Antisemitism in Education (CCAE) - CCAE drives meaningful change by creating top-tier resources and leading nationwide campaigns to influence K-12 and university policies, using a whole-of-society approach that harnesses research, advocacy, litigation, monitoring and outreach to fight antisemitism.
• Campus Antisemitism Report Card - Comparative information about the current state of antisemitism at 135 schools, and how these universities and colleges are responding.
• Advocacy Toolkit: Confronting Antisemitism on Campus - With incidents happening too often, ADL has created a toolkit for all campus stakeholders on how to respond effectively by identifying, reporting and responding to antisemitic incidents.
• ADL University Staff Action Network - A national initiative providing university staff with the tools, resources and community support needed to address rising antisemitism and anti-Israel bias on campus.
• What Universities Should Do to Prepare for the Academic Year - A toolkit to help college administrators develop and implement our recommended policies and actions.

• Join the School Action Network - ADL's exclusive program for community members who are ready to combat antisemitism in K-12 schools. Build advocacy skills, create new networks, and take action to make schools safer and more inclusive for Jewish students and all students.
• BEACON: Building Educator Allies for Change, Openness and Networks - A program for K-12 educators ready to create more inclusive school communities. Grow advocacy skills, network with other educators and learn how to combat antisemitism and hate in schools.
• Parent Advocacy Toolkit – This new resource includes crucial advocacy information for both public and independent school parents and caregivers. Learn effective advocacy in K-12 schools and brush up on your knowledge about antisemitism and anti-Zionism.
• Alumni and Donor Advocacy at Independent schools - Guidance for donors and alumni to address antisemitism and foster Jewish inclusion in independent K-12 schools.
• Safe, Seen, Included: A Family Toolkit for Supporting Jewish Students - This package will help parents, caregivers and families of Jewish students connect with school leadership in a proactive, positive way. These tools will help ensure that Jewish students feel safe, seen and included in school.
• Back To School Resources - This is a compilation of resources for educators and families as the new school year begins. The educator resources help schools address antisemitism, support Jewish students and explore professional learning. The family resources provide advocacy strategies, address antisemitism, give an understanding of how to approach Israel in the curriculum and more.
