Emily Randall for Congress

John — we have a big update in the race for our adopted swing district, Arizona’s 6th.

➡️ The other Democrat running for the seat has ended his bid and endorsed our candidate, JoAnna “Jo” Mendoza. That leaves her as the sole Democrat in the race!

As you probably know, there's A LOT going on with redistricting. But no matter what happens in other states, Arizona’s 6th will still be one of the most competitive races in the country, and we will continue lending critical, early support to Jo and her campaign team.

It’s already shaping up to be a tough fight.

Republican Juan Ciscomani (who spoke out against the Big Bad Bill, then voted for it 😡) raised over $1 million last quarter. Jo, who comes from working-class roots and served for 20 years in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, raised about half as much in that time.

With the end of the month coming up fast, we’re calling on Team Emily to give Jo the grassroots boost she needs to stay competitive! Can you split a donation between JoAnna Mendoza and our organizing today? Our goal is to add 100 grassroots donations to Jo’s total by the end of August →

Thank you so much for your support. Adopting a swing district over a year before the election is unusual, but these times call for more than “business as usual.”

Sincerely,

In case you missed it — Our AZ-06 Deep Dive:

John,

Earlier this year, Emily “adopted” one of the most competitive districts in the country, Arizona’s 6th, also known as AZ-06.

That means we’re directing our grassroots energy to flip this critical seat ahead of the 2026 elections.

We wanted to give you an overview of why this race is so important – and how our combined efforts can turn this district from red to blue.

The District

AZ-06 encompasses the southeastern corner of Arizona, including all of Greenlee County, and parts of Cochise, Pima, Pinal, and Graham Counties. Most of the District’s population lives in Pima County in the rapidly growing suburbs of Tucson.

Arizona's 6th District - Zoomed in

AZ-06 is truly a PURPLE district. Voters here backed Trump by 5% in 2016, then Biden by 0.1% (!!) in 2020, then Trump by 2% in 2024. However, the 6th District has supported Democratic candidates for Senate in 2020, 2022, and 2024.

The Incumbent

Republican Juan Ciscomani won this seat in 2022 by 1.5% and in 2024 by 2.5%. Despite representing an extremely purple district, he has voted lockstep with the MAGA agenda.

When the Big Bad Bill was moving through Congress, Ciscomani spoke out against the provisions in the bill that would hurt Arizona’s green energy businesses.

He also said he "cannot, and will not, support any legislation that reduces Medicaid benefits for vulnerable populations the program intended to serve."

However, once Trump and Republican leaders applied a little pressure, Ciscomani caved and voted for the destructive budget he knew would hurt his constituents.

The final bill contained a tax provision that benefits Ciscomani personally, increasing the amount of “pass-through” income he can deduct from his taxes.

Our Candidate

While Ciscomani serves himself, our candidate JoAnna Mendoza has made a lifelong commitment to serving others.

JoAnna — known to friends as “Jo” — grew up in a farmworker family and relied on programs like SNAP and WIC. She enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 17 and served for 20 years – becoming a drill sergeant, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan, and leading the next generation of Marines.

She returned to Arizona to raise her son, Aidan, and worked as a nonprofit leader, veterans advocate, and policy expert to benefit working people in her community.

Saying that she would be an upgrade for Arizona’s 6th District is an understatement!

What’s Next?

There’s no handbook for “adopting” a swing district – but here are a few things we can do now:

➡️ Help with fundraising. The earlier the Mendoza campaign brings in funds, the more effective they can be.

➡️ Combat disinformation. The GOP and their billionaire donors will target Jo. We can pitch in to counter any attacks that come her way.

➡️ Grow our volunteer team. Just like we pulled out all the stops to send Emily to Congress, we’ll do the same for Jo, with phonebanking and more.

Now is the part where we ask for a donation.

Most members of Congress don’t go all-in, over a year in advance, to help a campaign hundreds of miles away. But there aren’t normal times, so we’re trying something new. We need to flip three seats to take back the House, and AZ-06 could be one of them.

Please split a donation of $25 or any amount to support JoAnna Mendoza and fuel our political program in Washington and in critical swing districts like Arizona’s 6th. Chip in today →
