John, I’d rather be writing with better news, but democracy is under direct attack. While I know it’s discouraging to see leaders try to undermine the very system meant to give us a voice, it also reminds us why the work ahead matters.
Just this week, Donald Trump announced that he wants to ban vote-by-mail nationwide using his executive authority ahead of the 2026 midterms, calling it a “scam.”
I want to be clear, John: Trump doesn’t have the power to do this. States set election laws — not the White House. Trump is trying to suppress votes and set the stage to claim that Republican losses in 2026 are illegitimate, just like he did in 2020.
