Yesterday was National Potato Day, john!
And here in Washington, we know a thing or two about potatoes.
Our state grows over 23 percent of all potatoes in the U.S., making us the second-largest producer in the country. From French fries to baked potatoes, chances are you’ve enjoyed Washington-grown spuds!
Potato farming isn't easy work. Rising costs, supply chain challenges, extreme weather, and trade barriers all make it harder for our farmers to thrive. That’s why Kim has been working around the clock in Congress to make sure Washington agriculture—including our potato farmers—gets the support it needs.
Earlier this year, Kim introduced a bipartisan bill to boost programs that open up new markets around the world for Washington-grown products. These programs already help our apples, cherries, and wheat reach more customers, and they’ll help potatoes too! More exports mean more opportunities for our farmers and a stronger local economy.
To celebrate National Potato Day, let’s recommit to fighting for the farmers who feed us. If you believe in supporting local farmers and want to help Kim continue her work to improve Washington's agriculture, chip in $5, or anything you can today.
