First Liberty
Great news just came in for our client Sabrina Steffans, the high
school senior from Buffalo, New York.
The Grand Island Central School District will allow Sabrina to
decorate her paid parking space with a Bible verse and religious
images. Even better, the district said she can use her original
design, which features the phrases, "God is love,"
"He loves you," a cross and John 14:6. No edits or changes
needed!
The school initially rejected Sabrina's submission, saying she
couldn't include references to her faith. We sent a letter to
school officials explaining this was unconstitutional-and it
only took about a week to receive a favorable response for our client.
"We are pleased that the school district has changed course and
will allow Sabrina to truly express her deeply held beliefs in her
design," said Keisha Russell, Senior Counsel for First Liberty.
This victory comes at the perfect time! Sabrina starts classes in less
than two weeks.
Thank you for supporting First Liberty. You share a special part in
victories like this one, which make a huge difference in the lives of
Americans. With her religious freedom restored, Sabrina can now focus
her studies and make the most of her senior year.
