Last week, we told you about Texas, where the Republican-controlled State Senate passed gerrymandered maps that would give the GOP five new seats in Congress.

In a courageous stand to block a final vote in the State House, Democrats walked out — risking arrest and even removal from office.

Now, Trump allies are pushing leaders to target the few remaining Democratic districts in Ohio, Indiana, South Carolina, and Missouri. While in Florida, Republicans have already taken the first steps towards mid-cycle redistricting by launching a House committee to explore it.

The GOP knows they’re on track to lose the U.S. House in 2026, and they are willing to sabotage free and fair elections to hold onto power. The frontlines of this fight are in state legislatures, where district lines are drawn and the balance of Congress is decided.

➡️ In Illinois, Gov. JB Pritzker is keeping the option open to redraw the state’s congressional map and has hosted more than two dozen Texas House Democrats in suburban Chicago to stand against gerrymandering.

➡️ In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed giving voters the power to redraw maps.

➡️ In New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul and Democrats are backing a constitutional amendment to allow mid-decade redistricting if other states do it first.

These strategies show what’s possible when we lead in the states — but they will only succeed if we win blue majorities in key legislatures across the country.
