Friends, it’s Senator Alex Padilla.
I just stepped off the stage, where I spoke alongside Governor Newsom and Senator Schiff on California’s plan to fight back against Donald Trump’s redistricting scheme.
When our democracy is under attack, California fights back. This November, California voters will have the power to respond to Trump’s attempts to rig the election by voting on new congressional maps.
In normal times, a political party in power would be proud of their accomplishments and running on their record — asking voters to keep them in power.
We are not living in normal times.
Three words have defined Donald Trump’s presidency: Costs, chaos, and corruption.
With Donald Trump and complicit Republicans in Congress, they’ve chosen to use their powers to gut health care, threaten Social Security, send masked agents to disappear people from schools and workplaces, and violate the Constitution.
They know that these issues aren’t just unpopular — they’re wrong. Now, the only hope they have to cling onto power is to try and rig the election.
Trump said he was “entitled to five seats in Texas.” California is not going to stand for it. With this election, we will work to neutralize Trump’s power grab in Texas, fight back against attacks on our democracy, and ensure they can’t rig the House of Representatives in their favor.
