Dear John,
Today is the 90th anniversary of the creation of Social Security — but Trump Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says that Trump’s big, ugly budget mega-bill is in fact a “backdoor for privatizing Social Security.”
Oh, hell no.
Their plan is to lure people into giving up on Social Security and become gamblers in the stock market through new tax-deferred investment accounts called "Trump accounts."
Wall Street lobbyists would get rich while the working people who rely on Social Security would be left high and dry in the inevitable event of a major stock market downturn.
I personally served as a Social Security trustee, and I will do everything in my power to defend Social Security. But we need to act now to warn the American people about Trump’s “backdoor” privatization scheme.
Will you make a monthly donation to Inequality Media Civic Action to help educate the public and stop Trump’s backdoor plan to privatize Social Security?
Republicans have been dying to get rid of Social Security since the day Franklin Delano Roosevelt created the program 90 years ago today.
Trump has already gashed the Social Security Administration, shutting down local service offices and cutting staffing, leading to phone wait times of two to three hours. Now he wants to end Social Security as we know it with a “backdoor privatization” scheme.
We won’t let it happen. Social Security is one of the most successful and popular government programs of all time, and as a former Social Security trustee, I know how much is at stake.
With your help, we will use our massive reach across social media to call out Republican lies about Social Security and alert the public about Trump’s privatization plan. This is a fight that Inequality Media Civic Action was built for — to explain to voters in clear, concise terms how economic policies affect their everyday lives.
Will you make a monthly donation to Inequality Media Civic Action to help educate the public and stop Trump’s backdoor plan to privatize Social Security?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
