Critical gains in reducing hunger
and poverty around the world are at risk of being lost. Our core
humanitarian values and beliefs have been under constant attack this year.
Aid funding has been slashed. Food assistance has been torched. Civilians
have endured relentless conflict and unbearable hunger. Poverty is growing
worse as livelihoods are being destroyed and opportunities are drying up.
The time for staying quiet is over. We must speak out to stand up for our
values — loudly, urgently, and until we are truly heard.
Soon, Congress will return from their summer recess and take on some of
these critical challenges, including passing a budget to fund life-saving
foreign assistance in the coming year. Before then, join us in making a
powerful public statement to make 100% clear what the American public
stands for.

Right now, we are watching the systematic dismantling of so much of the
progress we’ve been fighting for over the years.
The termination of nearly 10,000 foreign aid programs has cut off millions
of people around the world from food, water, shelter, health care, and
other life-saving support. The human consequences have been devastating
and are still mounting.
In Sudan, where 13 million people are displaced and 600,000 face
catastrophic hunger, the U.S. had been the largest donor before the recent
aid cuts — providing 44% of total humanitarian aid. In Somalia, where 4.4
million people face acute hunger, the U.S. had provided approximately 65%
of humanitarian aid.
Now, nutrition and health centers have been forced to close, putting
thousands more, especially malnourished children, at risk. Kids who once
relied on school feeding programs are now going hungry. Parents who relied
on health clinics to save their malnourished children are now watching
them die. Wells and pumps to provide safe drinking water lie half-dug and
unfinished because funding was abruptly stopped.
America is turning its back on the world’s most vulnerable people — and
together, we cannot stop speaking out until we are heard.

prioritize the people who are in greatest need: hungry families, civilians
in conflict, and anyone who is striving to create a better life despite
persistent injustice.
