Money should never decide who runs our country. You know this, I know this. And 20,000 of us came together to say so.

The government has listened. A few weeks ago, they announced the introduction of a new “Elections Bill” that will stop foreign and far-right money from influencing UK elections. The bill will also strengthen donor checks more generally, and introduce automatic voter registration.

That’s a big win for everyone who cares about protecting our democracy, and it wouldn’t have happened without supporters like you, John.

Back in January, when rumours swirled that Elon Musk – the power hungry, far right billionaire bankrolling Tommy Robinson – was preparing to pour cash into Nigel Farage’s Reform UK, HOPE not hate supporters leapt into action.

Nearly 15,000 of you signed our petition and over 5,000 emailed their MP to demand new legislation. We put the pressure on, and it worked.

The announcement of this Bill is a vital first step to free our democracy from the interference of foreign and far-right billionaires. But this is only the first step. We’ll be keeping up the pressure as the Bill is introduced and progresses through parliament to make sure it is strong enough to do the job.
