Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well. Below I have information on my Summer Collection Drive, which ends this week, a statement on transit funding and our state budget, helpful information, and more! Remember to scroll down to the community events section to find out what’s happening in the district and across Montgomery County! As always, I hope you find the information below useful. | Important Updates/Highlights | Transit Funding & State Budget Statement | The Pennsylvania Senate returned to Harrisburg yesterday after six weeks of inactivity—six weeks where our state was without a budget and funding for our transit systems. And we’re still without either of those because Senate Republicans failed to do their job. They passed their own budget and transit funding legislation, but their options are not solutions to the problems at hand. The budget they passed does not fulfill our constitutional obligation to invest in schools, provide for health services, support disability services, fund mass transit and more. The mass transit proposal Senate Republicans passed takes money away from all our transit systems in Pennsylvania, and they passed it knowing that the PA House and Governor Shapiro will not support it. They only returned to Harrisburg this week, fully aware that SEPTA would have to implement drastic service changes by Thursday if the budget wasn’t approved. On Monday, the House sent its fifth funding proposal to the Senate for review, incorporating changes that Senate Republicans should have agreed to. With the proposal the Senate has now sent to the House, the mass transit crisis continues and puts transit services across Pennsylvania in jeopardy. SEPTA’s service cuts are imminent. Tomorrow’s deadline is real, and without a sufficient deal—which Senate Republicans could have passed yesterday—the proposed cuts will go into effect on August 24. They have failed workers, students, seniors, those with disabilities and businesses that all depend on mass transit. The livelihood of our neighbors and our economy is on the line, and they let down every single one of us. | Friends, my 2025 Summer Collection Drive ends this Friday, August 15, and we’re still in need of donations! The 2026 Growing Greener grant program will begin accepting applications from April 2026 through June 2026. This gives municipalities and groups time to identify and plan for future projects related to the Perkiomen Mapping and Flood Mitigation Plan. The 2025 cycle required a 5% match and permitted funding up to $500,000. A successful grant application takes time! The project needs to be identified, and planning needs to progress to the point of identifying the problem and the recommended solution. As we wrap up the PM&FM Plan, we will provide planning level guidance for the 20 locations identified in the Phase 1 recommendations. Many of the project mitigations include “Upstream Basin Additions/Modifications” or better volume controls and additional stormwater infiltration. These mitigation actions may require coordination among several municipalities along their common creek segment. One of the Growing Greener Priority Project Examples is “Innovative BMP projects in MS4 communities”. The PM&FM Plan’s Phase 1 recommendations will be available in the coming weeks. Now is the time to start discussions about how to begin implementing these recommendations. If you have an idea for how this program could be implemented in our community, please feel free to reach out to my office at 484-200-8263 or your own municipal government! This milestone granted women the right to vote after years of work in the women’s suffrage movement and shifted us closer toward gender equality in our country, though this amendment didn’t include all women. Women of color would have to wait another 45 years until the Voting Rights Act was implemented to fully practice their right to vote. As we celebrate this milestone, it’s important to remember that many still faced challenges and were exclude from this right. | Music in the Park: Family Stages: Robin Hood from Upper Providence Township Wednesday, August 13, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Anderson Farm Park, Natural Amphitheater, 499 Hopwood Road, Collegeville, PA Movies on the Lawn – Wicked: The Singalong from Ursinus College Friday, August 15, at 7 p.m. Berman Lawn, 601 E Main Street, Collegeville, PA UP!
