Juab County’s next chapter

It’s the first day of school at Juab High today, but Governor and First Lady Abby Cox stopped by yesterday to spend the last day of summer break with some standout seniors. This tight-knit group is already making an impact in school and the community. Juab High boasts one of the highest graduation rates in Utah, and the new principal is focused on preparing students for the new jobs coming to Juab County, giving them every reason to build their careers close to home.

At Bar W Beef, the Governor toured a state-of-the-art, USDA-inspected facility where Utah-born, pasture-fed cattle are processed on-site. A Utah Food Security Processing Grant helped the company purchase a refrigerated truck, boosting capacity by 33% and strengthening local agriculture.

A Rural Fast-Track grant helped Desert Stream purchase new equipment to boost production and create jobs for this full-service nutritional product manufacturer. Their new facility is helping drive local economic growth.

The day wrapped up at the home of Blake and Susan Garrett, where the Governor and First Lady presented the Utah Treasure Award. Lifelong contributors to Juab County, the Garretts have built their lives around service to their work, their church, and their community. Together, they’ve raised six children, five of whom still live and serve in the community today.

Utah Lake brings new opportunities

As the second-largest lake in Utah after the Great Salt Lake, Utah Lake is a cornerstone of our state’s recreation, wildlife habitat, and water supply.

Thanks to years of coordinated work by the Utah Lake Authority, state agencies, local leaders, and researchers, the lake is now the cleanest it’s been in decades. Water clarity has improved, and healthier conditions are creating new opportunities for fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing.

Like many large lakes in the West, Utah Lake experiences seasonal algal blooms, and one is present in parts of the lake right now. But action is already underway. Utah Valley University has designed and deployed a new cleanup vessel that can remove harmful algae before it spreads — protecting both water quality and public health.

With these investments and partnerships, Utah is committed to keeping the momentum going for a cleaner, healthier Utah Lake.

The Utah Department of Commerce has established a new Residential Construction Fraud Task Force and appointed the state’s first full-time prosecutor dedicated to handling these cases. This effort aims to strengthen the state's ability to combat construction fraud and protect consumers from scammers.

The Utah Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Board approved several options for hunters whose permits may be impacted by the Monroe Canyon Fire during an Aug. 1 emergency meeting. Four new members were also sworn in, beginning six-year terms on the board

Alpine School District staff participated in Stop the Bleed training across its 90 schools. In partnership with Intermountain Health, the training provides educators with life-saving skills to manage bleeding emergencies. The hands-on sessions help remove hesitation and prepare staff to respond effectively in various emergencies, enhancing school safety.
