Team,

Over the past six years, Californians like you and me have paid more than $10 billion into a state wildfire fund. (1)

The fund was supposed to last 20 years—but January's Eaton fire might have drained it completely.

Corporate polluters are responsible for driving the climate crisis, creating the extreme heat and drought conditions that lead to such destructive and costly fires. Yet these polluters are skirting responsibility while regular Californians pay for the damages.

Everyday Californians shouldn't have to pay billions to clean up the mess left behind by corporate polluters. Sign our petition to tell Governor Newsom that now is his opportunity to hold the perpetrators accountable and make polluters pay for the crisis they've created.

TAKE ACTION: [link removed]

It's the start of peak wildfire season in California, and blazes like the enormous Gifford fire in the Central Coast are breaking out across the state.

To replenish the state wildfire fund, Governor Newsom recently proposed a new law that would extend utility customer payments to the fund for an extra 10 years and add an additional $9 billion to cover the cost of wildfire damages. While this might offer some fast relief, it's clear we need a better long-term solution.

Californians are paying more than our fair share while the polluters who created the climate crisis sit back, rake in billions, and do nothing to help alleviate the crisis they knowingly created. Add your name to the list and tell Governor Newsom to shield regular Californians from the cost of wildfire relief by making polluters pay their fair share.
