The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has uninvited the October 7 documentary The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue—by Canadian filmmaker Barry Avrich—from its festival lineup. Their excuse, according to reports, is that the film “did not receive permission” from Hamas terrorists.  This is absolutely unreasonable.

The film tells the powerful true story of Noam Tibon, who raced from Tel Aviv to rescue his son and two young granddaughters trapped in a safe room in Kibbutz Nahal Oz when Hamas terrorists invaded to rape, murder, and take innocents hostage—broadcasting their atrocities with GoPros for the world to see. 

By pulling this film, TIFF has silenced a story of extraordinary courage and survival. 

Why? Because a small mob of violent extremists—abroad and here in Canada—demanded it.

This shameful decision comes at a perilous time, as extremists are emboldened by recent plans by Canada and other nations to recognize Palestinian statehood. Galvanized by these moves, Hamas has openly called on supporters to escalate violence and intimidation around the world. And from Victoria to Montreal to Saint John, Jewish Canadians and our institutions are being attacked.

By caving to these extremists, TIFF is sending a chilling message: Toronto’s Jewish community, which has long played an integral role in the festival, is no longer safe or welcome. 

Such capitulation stains TIFF’s reputation and hands extremists a dangerous victory.

Every Canadian should be outraged. 

Send your message to TIFF leadership and demand they screen The Road Between Us.
