Updates on Labor Day and August Saturdays

We are planning our next mass mobilization for Labor Day: Monday, September 1st, to uplift our struggles against fascism, oligarchy, and the MAGA regime. We are working with many unions and advocacy groups in the city to organize this event. Right now, here’s what we need you to do.
  1. Save the date, and tell your friends the next big protest is Labor Day. We are working with labor unions and immigrants rights organizations in the city to plan a march in the Mission, and we will send out details as we continue our planning.
  2. Get ready to volunteer. Look out for our volunteer sign-up form when we send it out later this week. Because of the increased need to protect our immigrant friends and neighbors, we will need many more security volunteers than last time. If you don’t want to wait for a form, reply to this email and we’ll get you started.
  3. Join one of our smaller events every Saturday in August. One thing we really need from our members is to start organizing and attending small events to build our relational network in the city in preparation for big events. It’s easy, fun, and it really helps your community!

Saturday, August 16: Gone Bananas Art Party at Standard Deviant. We’re hosting an art party at our favorite postcarding location, Standard Deviant, to blow off some steam, make protest signs and fun banana-themed art, and enjoy banana muffins! Sign up on Eventbrite.

Saturday, August 23: People’s Posse Leaflet Walk. As an engagement-experiment with people we don't normally reach, we will be distributing Wanted for Treason leaflets in one or more high-traffic locations, followed by a brief evaluation of the action. Sign Up Here to participate in the Peoples’ Posse Leaflet Walk and be informed of time/location.

Saturday, August 30: How to Organize and Run Your Own Protest Training, 3-5 PM at 518 Valencia St. We want more people doing more protests—and we want to share our knowledge of how to put on the safest, most effective protests you can. Space is limited so reserve a ticket on Eventbrite for this free event.

Bookmark our Labor Day 2025 page and check back for more events and more details as we finalize plans. And share it with like-minded people you know who are itching to get back in the streets.

And, don’t forget to sign up for our next general meeting on Sunday, August 17 at 683 Florida St!

Tell your state reps: Stop the Steal! Fight back against MAGA gerrymandering!

Trump has realized that his agenda is so incredibly unpopular that he’ll lose the house in the 2026 election. Rather than adjusting his policies, he’s instead instructed Republican Governors to create more house seats by gerrymandering their states so he’ll continue to have a legislative branch that lets him get away with anything.

We can’t allow the Republicans to steal the next election. California eliminated gerrymandering by drawing legislative boundaries by a bipartisan committee. While we want to end political gerrymandering nationwide, current plans for a mid-decade gerrymandering in Republican states is an existential emergency. Our democracy itself is under attack, and our best defense is a strong offense.

Governor Newsom has proposed a constitutional amendment that would temporarily suspend the independent committee until the next census in 2030. This would allow the Democratic legislature to counter the gerrymandering currently planned in Texas by redistricting California to create additional Democratic seats, thus preventing the Republicans from stealing the House. In order for this to happen, it requires a two-thirds vote from both the California Assembly and the Senate, and then support from the public in a special election in November. The deadline for calling this election is August 22nd — we need our state representatives to support it.

Call State Senator Wiener, and your Assemblymember (Haney or Stefani) and tell them that we need to perform mid-decade redistricting in California. Call script on our website.

Resistance for the Long Haul: Join a Solidarity Circle

What if the foundation of our movements wasn’t just rallies or campaigns, but small groups of people committed to showing up for each other through crisis, care, and sustained resistance?

That is what a circle is: A small, self-organized group rooted in trust, mutual support, and collective action. Members check in with each other, share resources, respond to emergencies, and take action together.

Circles help movements endure. They offer the emotional and material support that keeps people involved for the long haul and provide the infrastructure to resist not as isolated individuals but as part of a deep, living network.

If you’re ready to join a circle or want to learn more, use the Solidarity Circles website here.

Tell your Representatives what Public Broadcasting means to you

We must always remember and promote the value of public-interest policies implemented for the well-being and welfare of all of us over the interests of greedy corporate barons and fascist ideologues.

Call your Representative and tell them what public television means to you. See the call script here.

Universities vs. the Trump Regime: How Harvard is fighting back

The Trump administration has been attacking education in this country, with cuts to the Department of Education; stripping research funds; ending affirmative action; and massive lawsuits around the universities’ support of pro-Palestinian demonstrators, trans students and faculty, and DEI.   In fact, many colleges and universities are capitulating in anticipation of what the administration might do by laying off staff related to DEI. Harvard University has been a main target of the Trump administration and is one of the few universities fighting back.

Now the administration is making even more attacks against Harvard, such as blocking Harvard’s enrolling international students, and attacking the university’s patents.

Crimson Courage, a Harvard Alumni group for academic freedom, has been working to keep Harvard in the fight, and is an example for other schools around the country. Here are their ideas for ways to protect Harvard (or your alma mater) from the Trump regime.

  • Sign and share this letter to the President and Fellows of Harvard University. You don’t have to be affiliated with Harvard to sign. Sign the petition here.
  • Contribute to Harvard’s legal defense via Crimson Courage.
  • Find out what is happening at your college. Is it kowtowing to Trump’s demands on cutting DEI, limiting academic freedom, collaborating with ICE, or otherwise hurting its faculty and staff? Is it, on the other hand, standing strong and resisting the Trump regime? It’s up to you as a current student, employee or alumnus: join your local alumni group, and let people know how your college is doing. You can use Invidisible National’s explainer to do so.

NEW ROLES: Want to help us do this work?

We will plug you in where your skills can do the most good to resist this administration.

If you would like to join and do important work with us, we welcome you! Currently we are in need of volunteers to help with the following:
  • Making artwork for our calls to action, blog posts, and other projects.
  • Maintaining our website, newsletter and Zoom account
  • Joining and building out an on-the ground flyering team. We’re looking to distribute information on our events in the real world. We want people who can print and post flyers around their neighborhood. It’s a great way to get your steps in.
  • Publishing our newsletter with MailChimp on Newsletter Night (Tuesdays at 5 PM).
  • Making short-form videos to help educate people on our topics in an accessible way.
  • Tracking federal, state, and local legislation and working with our state and local legislatures and Mayor Lurie.

No experience is needed; we will train you and provide everything you need. If you would like to help us, please contact us at [email protected].
