Trump is using DC as a testing ground for federal control of Democratic cities. We have to fight back.
Hi John, it's Pramila.
Yesterday, Donald Trump deployed the National Guard to Washington, DC, and put the city’s local police department under federal control. Under the guise of “fighting crime,” he’s militarizing the streets and sidelining local leaders.
We need to be clear: this isn’t just about DC. Trump has openly discussed putting other large cities with Democratic leadership under federal control as well.
With his latest actions in the nation’s capital, he’s testing how far he can push his authoritarian agenda. If we don’t fight back now, he will keep going, and no city — Seattle, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, you name it — will be safe from this kind of federal overreach.
Throughout history across the world, we’ve seen what happens when authoritarians seize power, and we can’t let it happen here. But to fight back, I need you with me.
Here’s what we’re doing about it:
- We’re relentlessly calling out Trump’s abuses of power in Congress, in the press, and on social media.
- We’re preparing our communities through nationwide organizing and nonviolent resistance trainings so that we’re ready for whatever comes next.
- And we’re building a grassroots movement that’s strong enough to push back against this kind of overreach.
We’ll never stop speaking truth to power. We’ll double down on our work to organize and mobilize the grassroots. And we’ll rack up massive electoral wins for years to come.
Trump is counting on chaos and fear to keep us quiet. But if we show massive, unified resistance now, we can make it politically impossible for him to expand this power grab.
Can you chip in $5, $10, or whatever you can today to help us keep organizing and fighting back against Trump’s authoritarian overreach?

This is the moment to prove that our democracy belongs to the people — not to Donald Trump.
