 Treasury Secretary Says Trump Accounts Could Pave Way to Privatizing Social Security John, Trump’s Treasury Secretary just said the quiet part out loud: They’re trying to privatize Social Security. According to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the so-called “Trump accounts” that Republicans created in their tax and spending bill are a “back door for privatizing Social Security.” This is yet another blatant threat to millions of Americans who have worked their whole lives to earn these benefits, fair and square. I’m fighting for them to get every cent.
This isn’t the first time Trump and Republicans have taken aim at our Social Security earned benefits. Since taking office, Trump has allowed DOGE to cut the agency’s staff and Social Security benefits, resulting in system outages and threatening individuals’ access to their benefits. The Trump administration has laid out plans to fire thousands of workers at the Social Security Administration, and they’re closing Social Security field offices across the country. Now, Republicans see the new Trump accounts as an opportunity to gut Social Security for future generations.
