Dear Pro-life Friend,

In the space of just a few days, MPs voted to change our country forever.

On 17 June, by a shocking margin of 3-1, they voted to permit the killing of unborn babies by their mothers
up to the moment of birth.

And three days later, by a margin of just 23 votes, they approved Kim Leadbeater’s Assisted Suicide Bill.

There has never been a more morally blind group of MPs.

But TOGETHER we will stop these evils. SPUC is FIGHTING BACK.

Last week, I explained how the abortion lobby made a serious mistake in pushing abortion up to birth.

Today, I will show how the suicide lobby is also vulnerable to pro-life pushback.

More and more people are realising that if the Leadbeater Bill passes our country will never be the same.

Medicine was once governed by an oath: “first do no harm”. But assisted suicide will change the relationship between doctors and patients forever.

Doctors will still be there to heal us, but they will also be there to help us die. If Leadbeater passes, the bond of trust between doctors and patients will be shattered forever.

Our relationship with death will also change. Death will no longer be the natural end of life. Instead, we will be made to “choose” when and where it takes place.

Vulnerable people are being told their lives are a burden and if this bill passes many will feel pressured to die.

This Bill is so radical that it was even reported in the mainstream press last week that King Charles III is going through a “dark night of the soul” at the thought of giving it Royal Assent.

We may never know if that is true, but widespread public concern about the Bill will mean it is subject to more than usual scrutiny in the House of Lords.

And it already reaches that chamber in an unusually vulnerable state.

At Third Reading it passed by just 23 votes. This is a very narrow margin for such a controversial Bill.

What’s more, it LOST support as the debate went on. At Second Reading last year it passed by 58 votes.

The more MPs learned about the Bill’s dangers, the fewer supported it.

Your support for SPUC’s campaign brought Leadbeater’s margin of victory down to just 23 votes.

Just twelve more pro-life votes would have defeated the Bill for good.

A controversial Bill with a margin this small enters the House of Lords with no moral authority behind it.

What’s more, this is a Private Member’s Bill, not a Government Bill, meaning it can’t be pushed through the Upper House against the opposition of peers.

SPUC’s immediate campaign priority is clear. We must direct all our lobbying efforts to the House of Lords.

Stopping the Bill in the Lords is our first priority. But even if it gets through the Upper House, there are good reasons to hope we can stop it ever being implemented,

That’s because under pressure to get the Bill through, the death lobby was forced to agree to delay its implementation until 2029.

This means we have four years to rally the British public and get the law repealed before a single life has been lost.

And it is quite possible that there will be a General Election before 2029.

That’s why I have already given the instruction to SPUC’s team to prepare for a full-scale General Election campaign.

We must start fighting now to elect a Parliament which will stop the implementation of the Leadbeater Bill if it passes the Lords.

Next time we must have those 12 votes.

But we can’t achieve a goal like this without your support.

In order to fight back effectively we must raise £250k during this campaign.

Phase 1 – House of Lords fight

SPUC’s first task is to defeat the Leadbeater Bill, and the abortion-up-to-birth amendment, in the House of Lords. Additional lobbying costs over the next few months may reach around £80k:
* £30k to hire more lobbying support to reach more than 800 peers in time
* £30k to produce the very best research on the Bill and communicate it to every peer
* £20k to commission top legal analysis to show the dangers of both Bills.

Phase 2 – Pro-Life Parliament campaign

We need to start preparing NOW for the next General Election. We MUST elect a Parliament which will block the implementation of the Leadbeater Bill if it passes this time.

The initial measures of our general election plan will cost £170k:
* Investing £30k in local activist growth and training.
* Dedicating £20k to kicking the leaders of the death lobby out of Parliament.
* Allocating £40k to fund a national “Fightback” conference to rally the grassroots army.
* Spending £20k on the first phase of a nationwide awareness campaign.
* Running a counter-propaganda programme to counter death-lobby lies, which will cost £60k during its first six months.

There is no doubt that losing the Leadbeater vote by 12 votes was a major blow, and seeing MPs vote for abortion up to birth by a margin of 142 was even more devastating.

But public opinion is not on the side of the killers. And by going too far, too fast, the death lobby have shown the public how indifferent they are to the value of human life.

I know that you, like me, joined SPUC because you want to protect innocent lives.

Today, I ask that you help SPUC once again. Please donate TODAY so that we can put our fightback plan into action, while continuing to fund every other aspect of our lifesaving work.

Gifts of £25, £50, and £100 will make it possible to implement the first phase of our FIGHT BACK plan.

And larger gifts, of £500, £1000 or £5000, will allow us to scale up even faster and make our vision of a pro-life parliament a reality sooner.

Your gifts really will save lives and change history.

I couldn’t be more grateful for your support,
John Deighan
Chief Executive
PS: We can stop assisted suicide, but it will require the greatest FIGHTBACK in history. Last time we were 12 votes short; with YOUR SUPPORT, we will have them next time.

PLEASE DONATE TO SPUC TODAY!
