Every year that passes we see more and more candidates stepping up to run for office with gun safety as one of their leading issues -- 2020 is no different.
We are seeing candidates running from the state and local level all the way up to the presidential level who are making gun safety a priority.
Jay's one of them, and his record proves it.
As governor, Jay has made Washington state a trailblazer on gun safety. He implemented and stood up for Washington's voter-approved initiative to require expanded background checks and to ban people under 21 from purchasing semi-automatic rifles. He also signed legislation banning bump stocks and funded a program that removed hundreds of them off the street.
Finally, Jay stood up to Donald Trump -- in person and on national television -- after the president suggested that we should arm teachers to prevent school shootings. I was proud to hear Jay tell President Trump he should try "less tweeting" and "more listening." That's real leadership, and it's what Washington state and this country needs right now.
I'm excited to work hard with all of you this year to elect gun safety champions up and down the ballot who will be allies in our fight to end gun violence.
