Folks, wanted to keep you updated here. The
House passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020.
This is a major step forward for this historic legislation.
We can and must reimagine what just policing looks like in our
country. During hearings in the Judiciary Committee and then on
the House floor, my colleagues and I addressed the reforms needed
to hold police accountable, fight systemic racism, and save
lives.
I'm grateful to my colleagues for working diligently and
quickly to move this important work forward. I look forward to
the swift passage of this legislation through the Senate.
If you haven't yet, please take a moment to become a citizen
co-sponsor of the Justice in Policing Act. We cannot wait any
longer for action on police brutality and injustice →

Folks,
The latest string of heinous police violence against Black
Americans - the brutal killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery,
and Breonna Taylor - have put a microscopic lens on policing and
accountability for law enforcement.
I wanted to share with you the work House Democrats are doing
to take action and demand justice.
My colleagues and I in the House Judiciary Committee held an
oversight hearing this week on policing practices and law
enforcement accountability to guide our work as we continue to
draft legislation to change the system and hold law enforcement
accountable.
I have also signed onto various pieces of legislation,
including the Justice in Policing Act, which would:
* End the use of chokeholds
* Establish a National Police Misconduct Registry
* Demilitarize local police departments
* End racial profiling
* Mandate body cameras
* Incentive accreditation of police departments with national
standards
I hope you'll join me and sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of

Congressional action is just one part of the many reforms
needed on the city, state, and national levels to ensure
accountability for law enforcement and justice for those who have
been let down by the criminal justice system.
I will continue to provide oversight, ask questions, and seek
answers on an unapologetic pursuit of justice for the families of
George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, and countless
others who have been victims of racism.
In solidarity,
-- David
