John — over 50 Texas Democratic lawmakers made the courageous decision to leave their state rather than let Republicans ram through an aggressively gerrymandered map.

Donald Trump personally demanded that Texas Republicans gerrymander five Democratic congressional districts to flip them red ahead of the 2026 midterms. And Texas Republicans were all too happy to comply, rushing the rigged maps through two committees over the weekend in a blatant power grab.

But our fellow Democrats are standing strong and refusing to let the GOP deny communities of color fair representation and block progress on critical issues from the climate crisis to voting rights.

Their absence means Republicans can't reach the two-thirds majority needed to conduct business. It's a high-stakes gamble that could cost them their seats: Governor Greg Abbott is vowing to remove these lawmakers from office if they don’t return today.

This is what courage looks like when democracy is on the line. While Republicans bow down to Trump and try to gerrymander their way to permanent power, Democrats chose to fight back.
