You're reading the August edition of The JanePAC Monthly, John, and we're bringing you updates you don't want to miss!

From Jane's inspiring remarks at Bloomberg Green in Seattle to a massive JanePAC victory in San Diego, last month delivered some serious momentum for our movement. We also have critical updates on the recent Kerr County floods and what they tell us about climate risks nationwide, plus important news about Trump's latest attacks on science through the EPA.

Let's dive into everything that went down. 👇

📰 JANE IN THE NEWS

Jane addressed a room full of climate advocates at the Bloomberg Green conference in Seattle and delivered a powerful message: “We have two essential crises, and for both, it's now or never: democracy and climate.” She emphasized the importance of our mission at JanePAC and the need to build a firewall against Trump.

“The most important thing is to elect climate champions up and down the ballot, all over the country, starting yesterday.”

— Jane

🏆 CELEBRATING A MAJOR JANEPAC VICTORY

JanePAC-endorsed candidate Paloma Aguirre won her special election for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors last month! This is a major climate victory for a community desperately in need of environmental justice.

Paloma’s district is experiencing a catastrophic environmental emergency that hasn’t received nearly as much attention as it deserves. Millions of gallons of raw sewage, industrial waste, and other pollutants have been dumped into the Tijuana River. As a result, the local community has been exposed to toxic sewage, wastewater, and chemicals on a daily basis for years. It’s horrific.

As Mayor of Imperial Beach, Paloma has been leading the fight to tackle this crisis and provide much-needed relief to the community. On the Board of Supervisors, she’ll have an even larger platform to stand up to the polluters, deliver critical resources, and advocate for more federal assistance.

The news coming out of Washington is terrifying, but electing bold climate champions like Paloma at the local level is what keeps us going.

🤝 ADVOCACY & VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHTS

The JanePAC Advocacy team came together in full force last month to fight back against the Trump administration’s assault on our environment, our democracy, and marginalized groups across the country. We organized several letter campaigns on key issues, ranging from PFAS protections to stopping ICE’s assaults on our communities to protecting our public lands from being sold off to the highest bidder. In total, our letter campaigns resulted in over 75,000 letters being sent to leaders in Washington to demand real change.

The biggest highlight: Due to the overwhelming pressure from people across the country, Utah Senator Mike Lee was forced to walk back a plan that would have forced the sale of millions of acres of public lands to developers. This win is a testament to what people power can do.

We're gearing up for major growth in our volunteer program this year. Whether it's phone-banking, canvassing, or helping spread the word in your community, there are plenty of ways to get involved and support our climate champions. Find upcoming opportunities here. [[link removed]]

🌊 EXTREME WEATHER UPDATE

We want to thank everyone who donated to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund last month. Your generosity helps support communities on the frontlines of extreme weather events — communities that are too often left to recover alone. The climate crisis touches all of us, and one of the most powerful things we can do as a movement is extend empathy and tangible support to our neighbors.

The tragic reality is that Kerr County won't be the last community that needs our help. A devastating new report from Grist reveals that the Texas flood was only a preview of what's to come for communities across America.

The factors that turned heavy rain into a deadly disaster in Texas exist nationwide: Climate change is supercharging storms, flood warnings aren't reaching people in time, and we keep building homes where water will inevitably rise. Countless communities are one storm away from the same tragedy.

⚠️ EXPOSING TRUMP'S DIRTY FOSSIL FUEL AGENDA

It feels like every day brings a more devastating attack on science from this administration.

Donald Trump's EPA chief, Lee Zeldin, announced a plan last week to revoke what’s known as the endangerment finding. This is a 2009 scientific declaration that greenhouse gases threaten public health, and it has given the government legal authority to combat climate change.

Without it, any future president loses the power to hold Big Polluters accountable or limit fossil fuel emissions.

This comes on top of Trump eliminating the EPA's entire scientific research arm — hundreds of chemists, biologists, and toxicologists who study health risks, test drinking water, and ensure the air we breathe is safe.

If you haven't already, Jane is asking supporters to share their thoughts with her about these devastating EPA cuts. We're gathering responses from our most active JanePAC supporters to show the overwhelming opposition to Trump's anti-science agenda. Do you have two minutes to tell Jane what’s on your mind?
