Dear Green American,
By now you have likely read news reports of the burgeoning energy appetite of Artificial Intelligence for data centers. Companies like Microsoft, Meta, Google, and Amazon are spending billions to win the AI race and all too often are turning to fossil fuels to power that race.
And now Donald Trump has revealed a scheme to help big corporations secure control of artificial intelligence and avoid accountability for the harm they cause to communities and the climate.
Trump’s new AI Action Plan will:
Prevent regulation of Big Tech firms by creating a special carve-out where companies could experiment with powerful AI systems without oversight or accountability requirements
Use AI as an excuse to support dirty energy by falsely designating data centers and energy infrastructure as national security assets in order to abuse emergency authorities and usurp state and local zoning and public health laws to quickly build new natural gas infrastructure and data centers
Accelerate government investment in AI, including for ICE policing, border militarization, and defense contracts

In short, Trump’s ruse would unleash Big Tech companies to build more powerful AI models that can better exploit the American people — without commonsense safeguards — and then adopt these AI models all throughout the government. And it would embolden the world's biggest polluters to force new fossil fuel infrastructure in America’s communities. And corporate America is eager to play along.
But Congress has the power to go in a different direction — for example, Senators recently removed a 10-year ban on AI regulation from the reconciliation bill by a 99-1 margin.
We need to convince Congress to continue pushing back against Big Tech and protecting people from AI, no matter what Trump plans. Please email your Member of Congress and tell them to stand up to big tech and Donald Trump to protect communities and the climate from polluting fossil fuels.

Trump’s plan has many problems, and it incentivizes the use of dirty fossil fuels to power the insatiable appetite for energy the data centers need to operate. All of this would increase pollution in communities and make climate change worse.
