Earlier this year, Avelo Airlines quietly signed on to fly deportation flights for ICE, turning our airports into launchpads for tearing families apart.
Public outcry followed as activists around the country launched anti-Avelo billboards and public protests over the cruel deportation flights...and now the pressure is starting to work. Activists – including Our Revolution members – in Burbank, California just helped push the airline to close its base there.
Next we’re taking the fight to Maryland and Maine to turn up the pressure and show Avelo – and all airlines – that separating families and powering ICE’s deportation machine is NOT good for business.

Avelo started flying special charter ICE deportation flights in May. Protests and vows to boycott the airline soon followed, and haven’t let up since.
Now, the protests have spread to airports like Maryland’s Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) airport, which is owned by the state of Maryland. That means its Governor and transportation officials have the power to decide which airlines use public resources for their operations.
We’re not stopping there. Avelo also operates flights out of Portland, Maine, where city officials have direct jurisdiction.
This means that decision-makers at airports like BWI and Portland International Jetport have a choice. They can stand with immigrant families and refuse to do business with an airline responsible for ripping families apart – or they can turn a blind eye while our tax dollars bankroll Trump’s deportation machine.
Grassroots organizing in Burbank worked because the outcry was impossible to ignore. And now we’re ready to do it again and again until no airline wants to be associated with ICE’s cruel deportation.
