Dear john, Though today is just the first day of August, the August Work Period has been in full swing all week long! While Congress is out of session for the next few weeks, I'm taking advantage of the opportunity to spend time with local leaders, community stakeholders, and constituents just like you to listen to your ongoing concerns and discuss all the ways in which my office continues to serve and support you during what I know are challenging times. Before I share some highlights of the first week of the August Work Period, I want to share some great news: Last week, I told you that our pressure on the Trump Administration and the Department of Education was producing results with $1.3 billion in funding for our students already being released. Since that time, I am thrilled to report that the Trump Administration has announced they will release all remaining funds that were being illegally withheld—a total of $7 billion! This is a huge victory for teachers, students, and their families. I want to thank each of my Democratic colleagues who joined me in leading this effort to get these funds released before the school year began. To read more about this restored funding, check out my press release. | This week, I was privileged to visit Lockheed Martin in Marietta. Lockheed employs over 680 constituents from my district alone, and I was pleased to learn about the ways in which they are helping to educate and support the workforce of the future. Thank you for having me! | American Job Centers are pillars of federal job training programs. I stopped by the Cobb Work Source Center in Mableton to learn more about the success of their programs and how they are connecting people with opportunity. As a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, I am proud to be a champion for our country’s workforce development system. When Congress returns to Washington, I look forward to making further progress on the reauthorization of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act to support American Job Centers across the country. | On Monday, I toured the campus of Kennesaw State University. I recently teamed up with Congressman Barry Loudermilk on an amendment to support funding for KSU's military resilience work, which includes suicide prevention resources. Support for our servicemembers and returning veterans remains a top priority for my office. During that same visit, I also met with leadership from the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center at KSU. The Georgia SBDC network is an incredible asset to small business owners and entrepreneurs across the state. I heard directly from four local business owners about how this resource is helping them navigate the current business environment. | Thank you for taking the time to stay up to date with my office. As the August Work Period continues, please stay in touch with my office and do not hesitate to reach out if my staff and I can assist you with any federal issues. | Rep.
