Tell Media Billionaires: Don't Cave to Trump [[link removed]
Friend,
Paramount (parent company to CBS) has long been chasing federal approval on an $8-billion merger with Skydance Media — and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr just offered them the green-light. What did it take? Apparently, a $16-million lawsuit settlement to Trump … which Stephen Colbert had no issue labeling a bribe during his opening monologue on The Late Show. Just days later, CBS announced plans to stop airing the highest-rated late night program, dubiously calling Colbert’s cancellation a “financial decision.”[1]
Sure.
The wealthy owners overseeing our country’s media system continue to curry favor with the Trump administration while the rest of us lose access to independent voices that challenge the lawless excesses of this regime.
Trump and his censorship czar, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, have created an environment of press intimidation — and the owners of many of the nation’s largest media companies are far too willing to cave to the pressure.
Time and time again, we see evidence of profits being placed before any obligation to stand up to an authoritarian-minded leader on behalf of fundamental First Amendment rights. This official bullying of the press is outrageous on its own, and the speed with which media owners are giving into Trump’s demands makes it especially dangerous.
This is not a sustainable path forward for a free press and a free society. Add your name to demand corporate courage in the face of authoritarianism. *One click on the link or button will instantly add your name to our petition if we have your details on file.*

To the leaders of the most powerful media companies in the United States:
We call on you to reject bullying, manipulation and harassment by the Trump administration. Do not compromise your independence to curry favor with an abusive and corrupt regime.
Far too many media owners have caved to political pressure in search of regulatory favors and merger approvals. Fearing retribution, other media owners have settled meritless lawsuits from the president and his allies.
We urge you to stand with us in defense of an independent media system that holds people in power accountable.
