John, Ohio politicians just took us one step closer to stepping off the Article V cliff.
Extremist lawmakers in the state are pushing a resolution they say is all about cleaning up government – but in reality, it’s a trojan horse to push forward a constitutional convention where all of our rights are at risk. [1]
In case you forgot, we’re just six states away from triggering an Article V Convention - an extremist plot to rewrite our Constitution and take away our fundamental rights and freedoms.
And if they get their way, some of the worst ideas in Project 2025 - dismantling civil rights, gutting public schools, and robbing hardworking Americans of their Social Security benefits - would become permanent parts of our Constitution.
And that’s exactly why notorious right-wingers, like former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, are prioritizing this effort. You see, they realize they can’t convince enough of their fellow Americans to support their point of view… so they’ve identified Article V as the best way around majority rule.
Here’s the good news - Common Cause is the leading national organization fighting back against this Article V plot. We’ve tracked over 100 resolutions this year - and we’ve already helped block or repeal resolutions in ten states.
Don’t take our word for it. The Convention of States, the organization leading the charge for an Article V convention, is going after Common Cause Ohio for their efforts to stop this plot. [2] They know that as long as we’re on the case, they’ll never be successful.
We’ve successfully rescinded existing convention calls in Connecticut, New Jersey, Illinois, Colorado, New Hampshire, Delaware, New Mexico, Maryland, Idaho, and Oregon – meaning that if Common Cause hadn’t acted, we’d be just one or two states away from a Convention.
But this fight is far from over, John. And if we aren’t successful this year, everything from reproductive freedom and marriage equality to voting rights and public education could be up for grabs.
Chip in now to help Common Cause keep fighting to protect your rights—and stop an Article V Convention before it’s too late.

We’re against deep pockets and powerful special interests. Common Cause won’t let them win – but we need to pull out all the stops to prepare for any more calls to come this year.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
