Dear Angeleno,
Today, we housed more than 30 Angelenos who had been living in squalid conditions at a notorious encampment in Van Nuys in the San Fernando Valley. Now, Angelenos who were once living in tents near the 405 freeway, some for years, are moving into safe, temporary housing – this is an important step forward on the road to stability.
I ran for Mayor to urgently confront the humanitarian crisis of homelessness and make fundamental changes to how we help people living on the streets. This month, we announced that street homelessness has declined two consecutive years in a row – a first in many years. Street homelessness is down nearly 20% since before I took office, and that’s because of our work through Inside Safe.

Still, we see tents and encampments in other areas of the city and our urgent work must continue. After being on the ground with the Inside Safe team and hearing from people who are eager to go inside, I'm more committed than ever to saving lives and restoring neighborhoods.
We will continue this momentum.
