John,

This is a big development: A bipartisan bill that would ban members of Congress, the president, vice president, and their spouses from stock trading while in office has gotten one step closer to becoming law.

Yesterday, a Senate committee voted to send the bill — known as the HONEST Act, which closely resembles historic bipartisan legislation that was approved last year — to the Senate floor for a full vote.

These senators are showing their support for what Americans across the political spectrum have been saying for years now: Our elected officials should be working on behalf of the American people — not using their insider knowledge to make a personal profit.

Let’s make sure the rest of the Senate knows we want them to pass this bill and end the corruption! Write to your senators now and let them know you want them to put a stop to stock trading by our elected officials.

Write your letters!

Members of Congress shouldn’t be providing oversight over an industry and then be able to go and buy stock in companies that depend on decisions made by these lawmakers. Leveraging insider knowledge for personal profit is a clear conflict of interest.

The American people should be able to trust that those they elected into office to represent them are doing just that. Not working to make a buck for themselves or other wealthy special interests.

It’s time to pass legislation to put an end to this corruption and ban stock trading by elected officials. Tell your senators to support the HONEST Act.

Your support makes a difference,
