We just confirmed: the chair of Texas’s redistricting committee admitted he hasn’t even looked at the 2020 census data, even though GOP lawmakers are racing to redraw the congressional map in the middle of the decade.

That means the 2025 redistricting scheme isn’t based on demographics. It’s based on power grabs and political gamesmanship. And it’s all happening on Trump’s timetable.

Texans are furious. Public hearings in Houston and Austin doubled — or even tripled — capacity, filled with residents decrying this as a brazen, mid-decade power grab that will disenfranchise communities of color.

Redistricting isn’t supposed to be a guessing game. It should be grounded in data. But when GOP leadership refuses to even look at census reports, it shows how deep this power grab really is.
