The Trump-aligned majority on the Supreme Court just wrapped a term that shattered basic protections and handed sweeping powers to the presidency – and People For’s new report doesn’t hold back. Collaborators on the Court lays out how this far-right majority is enabling Trump’s MAGA agenda by weakening agency power, attacking civil rights, and shielding authoritarian abuses from accountability. If you’re alarmed by how the Court is being used to undermine democracy and freedom, read the report for our full analysis.

While Trump and his allies work to flood the federal bench with far-right ideologues, it’s been the lower courts – judges who still believe in the Constitution, not authoritarian power – that have blocked some of the worst parts of his agenda. But that fragile firewall is under siege.
People For the American Way is taking action to stop this takeover. We’re exposing the most dangerous judicial nominees, pressuring the Senate to reject them, and tracking the rulings of those who make it through. We’re also leading the call for structural court reforms to restore balance and accountability to a system the MAGA movement is determined to control.
Until midnight tonight, every donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000 by Tom Wallace Lyons – a generous and longtime People For supporter. Help us fight back and protect what’s left of our democracy – before it’s too late.

In a chilling call to action, Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts urged right-wing state legislators to “de-charter” liberal capital cities like Austin and Nashville and replace them with state-controlled municipal districts. Speaking at an ALEC gathering, Roberts framed this attack on local democracy as part of a “second American Revolution” and promised political “air cover” for lawmakers who carry it out. As part of a broader ten-point plan aligned with Project 2025, Roberts also pushed rollbacks on environmental protections, forced cooperation with ICE, and the adoption of a far-right education agenda. Read the full piece to see how Heritage and its allies are laying the groundwork for authoritarian rule at every level of government.

In a deeply troubling decision, the Trump-appointed majority on the Supreme Court used the shadow docket to let the Trump administration continue dismantling the Department of Education without congressional approval. The case, McMahon v. New York, stems from Trump’s executive order directing Education Secretary Linda McMahon to begin shutting down the department, despite federal law requiring congressional action to do so. Lower courts had blocked the move, but the Supreme Court stepped in with no explanation to overrule them. In a forceful dissent, Justice Sotomayor warned that the ruling undermines the Constitution’s separation of powers and accelerates executive lawlessness. Read the full breakdown to understand what this means for our democracy and why the courts matter now more than ever.

As we face a growing wave of authoritarianism and anti-democratic forces, it has never been more critical to secure the future of our democracy and the progressive values that are under attack by right-wing extremists. One way to join this cause is through estate planning to protect the people and things you love, safeguard your assets, and secure a brighter future for our country.
Despite the value of planning, the process is often inaccessible, overwhelming, and expensive — especially to historically disenfranchised communities. That's why we are excited that our partnership with FreeWill offers our supporters an opportunity to create their wills, and plan their estates at NO cost to you.
