Trigger warning: This content shares detailed accounts and images of suffering that viewers may find distressing.
I've been working with children and families in Gaza, witnessing the chaos and devastation with my own eyes. So believe me when I say: We're at a breaking point, John.
In Gaza, thousands of children are facing their final days after nearly five months of total blockade. Starvation is rampant, leaving many too weak to survive without urgent, sustained care.
The toll is devastating: 133 people have already died of starvation and malnutrition — 87 were children.
We're now seeing a sharp rise in the number of children coming to our clinics who are malnourished. The people of Gaza haven’t had enough, consistent food, nor safe and dignified distributions — and there’s only so long the body can sustain itself.
John, malnutrition is preventable and treatable. We know how to save lives.
We’re ready to respond on a large scale. But we're being denied access to those who need us most, including our own exhausted and starved teams.
Despite enormous challenges, Save the Children is still providing critical services to children and families, including access to safe drinking water, primary healthcare centers, mother/baby areas, child-friendly spaces and temporary learning spaces.
This week, I shared my personal account of this crisis from Gaza with PBS Newshour.

The recent tactical pause to allow more aid through is a step, but it's not enough. We need an end to this siege and full humanitarian access now.
Save the Children will do everything we can to deliver aid to families in Gaza and help them survive this devastating crisis.
We appreciate your ongoing support and will keep you updated on our progress, working together to make a difference for families in crisis around the world.
Thank you,
Rachael Cummings
Humanitarian Director, Save the Children
